Happy Friday! Megan did an awesome job this week as our star of the week. Fun pictures and things to share. Thanks Megan!
We finished out the week by taking a quiz in math over everything we have learned thus far. Can't wait to grade them this weekend and see where we are at. I am very impressed with what I am seeing. I also started calling back students to read large numbers to me. I will finish that up this coming week. Keep practicing at home. Students are expected to read numbers up to the hundred millions place in the 4th grade.
We also finished up Ch. 2 in Social Studies. We are moving away from map skills and onto the people living in the US. We started with Native Americans, and today we also read about Latinos. We are quickly discovering why they call the US a melting pot. Tons of different cultures in one nation.
Grade reports came home today. Grades are looking pretty good. You should also be seeing a bunch of graded classwork papers too. We passed them all back today. We went over any questions they had on any sheet that we passed back. We also talked about how when they turn in a paper to the box they are telling me it is done to their best ability. If they forget problems or even pages, that is what is graded and recorded. I do suggest that they do those pages at home. They can bring them into me to grade or you can grade them at home. I NEVER have them do anything without explaining it and modeling at least one of the problems. We talked a lot about how it is their choice to tune in or out while this is happening. We also talked about how it is their job to ask for help. That is why I am here, and I am more than willing to work with them when needed. Grade reports need to be signed and returned on Monday morning to earn $100. Those that don't will lose a $100.
Our first field trip has been set. Both 4th grades will be going to the NILE at the Metra fairgrounds. It will be on Monday, Oct. 17th. We will be gone all afternoon. I will need one chaperone. Please call me if that interests you. Please know that when you chaperone a field trip you will need to take a group and make sure that they are behaving just as I would. I will start collecting the fake $1000 buy in next week. There is no real money cost for this field trip! Yay!! Love when things are free!
Lastly, look at the title of this post. Have your child show you what a TGIF handshake is like. If they do, write TGIF in their planner for a $20 bonus at Monday's checkin. Make sure they are looking into your eyes. :0)
Well, have a great weekend. Cya on Monday!
