What a Fun Day!!!

Arrrrrg! What a fun National Talk Like a Pirate Day! Thanks to all of you that read the blog and dug deep into your creativity to get costumes. Loved them all! Fun!

To add to the theme, we played a money (treasure) game. It was called the Dollar Dice Game. Here is how to play it. You need two people. Player one rolls the dice and collects the correct money amount shown on the chart above. Then player two goes. You keep going until one player hits the treasure amount of $1 exactly. You can't go over. So if you have 99 cents and roll a two which earns a nickel, you have to take nothing for that turn. Play it again tonight with your child and write the word TREASURE in their planner for an extra $100 tomorrow at check in. We will continue to work on money all week. Homework tonight is a rounding sheet. They need to round to the underlined place value. Need help? Give me a call.

Students also brought home their nightly writing notebooks. They need to draw a treasure map. Then they need to write some 4th grade clues (hopefully using their north, south, east, and west directions) to lead me to their hidden treasure. Have them practice on you to see if they really do write what they mean. X marks the spot! They should have at least 5 clues.

Kids have to run the 800 tomorrow. In the past, Mr. Ness let them listen to their Ipods and other musical devices while running to help them focus. I am not sure this year, as it is a new teacher. But, I told the kids to bring them anyway. If she says yes, then great. If not, then thats ok too. I did extend that invite for kids to listen to them all day when I am not directly teaching for a $500 buy in. We talked about making sure they have enough for the two upcoming field trips first. If they have extra then yay! I told them this is like their parents. First they have to pay all their bills, then they get to see if there is extra for a night out for dinner or something. Ask your kids how much they have so far. Have a discussion about when we do great things and earn money instead of lose it we get to do all sorts of fun stuff! Congrats to those that do. All devices are brought to school at the child's own risk and must have school appropriate music on them.

Tomorrow is Zumba at Bitterroot from 6-7. Come join in the fun with the entire family. My two kids and I will be here. Those that attend with their family will earn $500. Wow!! That right there pays for the IPOD day tomorrow.

Have a super fun night.
