Well hello there. Sorry I missed you yesterday. Things are crazy around here with getting last minute things done before break.

We are moving right along in our Balto book. I am hearing some great discussions in their partner pair share groups. They are showing what they know from their days in bookclubs. We will continue to cruise through the book, even when I am away.

The independent Sitton spelling tests are going very well. We already have kids on test four! Wow!!! Tomorrow, when grade reports come home, you will see what test your child is on. They have had four days of testing so far. They should be at least on test three by tomorrow. Unfortunately, we have some still on test one. I am guessing they are not studying at night, as they are missing the same words each time. Study, Study. While I am gone, we will go back to the old spelling book. So they will do a lesson Monday and Tuesday, then go on break, and pick it back up on Tuesday and their test will be on Wednesday after the break. It is too confusing to have the sub do the Sitton tests. We will pick up where they leave off when I return.

We finished our I am the Ice Worm story!!! What a great book, with such a wonderful lesson. Allison had to learn the hard way that we don't NEED stuff, we just think we do. Ask your child about their favorite part of the book. If they can tell you, write the word ICE in the planner for a $20 bonus tomorrow. We will take our AR test on the book tomorrow. Kids will also bring home all of their Alaska projects tomorrow as well. As you can see above, yesterday we had the opportunity to skype with a 6th grade class in Alaska. We learned a ton!!!!

In CC meeting, we started our BELIEVE unit. We talked about this sentence today...I am proud to be me, even when I am different from others. I had the kids start the lesson by filling in the sentence, I love ____, but most people don't. It couldn't be a person. It had to be an object, smell, or place. Then we watched the story A Bad Case of the Stripes on our online storytelling site found on the Bitterroot Learning Links. Feel free to go watch it again with your child. If you do, write the word STRIPES in the planner for $100 bonus. After the story, we talked about how the stripes disease in the story is not real, but the message is. If people try to be someone else or that they are not, they will turn into a person they don't recognize. Finally, I had each student stand up and read their I love statement. They had to read it like they were proud of it! I LOVED them!!! I learned so much more about the kids. We laughed together! I told them to always love their qualities that make them unique the most!

Tomorrow is a spirt day. Kids may wear their school colors (blue and gold). Those that do, will earn $100.

Earlier this week, I sent home pictures with each student. With those comes three options. You may buy all of them and just send the money in the provided envelope. You may buy some of the pictures and send back the rest. Or, you may chose to not purchase any pictures and just send the entire package back. All decisions need to be made and paid for by April 3rd. It would be even better to have them tomorrow, so my sub doesn't have to deal with any money issues. Thanks.

Yesterday our class was EGGED!!!! Now, this is not what you are thinking. We came in from lunch recess to find plastic eggs hidden around the room. So, today we returned the egging to another class. Fun Easter stuff!!

Lastly, our classroom is getting painted. They painters will be in our room next Tuesday. It is a half day, so the kids will have class in the library. It will be a regular day, so please send your kids. It is important that they are here, even on crazy half days. :0) Thanks!

Have a super evening!!!
