Hello there.
I sure hope you were able to join us for the recorder concert this afternoon. How fun was it??? Super fun! They did a great job! If you still haven't seen it, you can find it on the You-Better-Belive-Network. The address was attached to the weekly reports last week. It is titled Recorder Concert 2012. If you watched it live or online, please write RECORDER in the planner for a $200 bonus!
We had edible science again today. I am loving this rock/fossil unit, and so are the kiddos. Today, we imagined we were palentologists and had to excavate fragile bones from the earth. Kids were given a chocolate chip/m&m cookie and a toothpick. They were not allowed to break any of the bones. It was fun to see them be so careful. We talked about what would make this career easier and harder. Great lesson.
In reading, we started our new novel...Riding Freedom. The kids had classwork, and now the parents have homework too! They were excited about that! :0) Homework is due back by Friday. They may bring it in before if you finish it tonight. Have a super fun time digging into your memory bank with your kiddo. I told them that I would prompt you to make sure it is nice and embarrassing for them if they raz you about having homework. :0) Enjoy!
We played a review states and capital's game today in class, and it did NOT go well. Oh my. What have these kiddos been studying for the past two weeks???? Yikes. I told them that MAYBE if they don't study now and pass the test they MIGHT need to stay back from a field trip and study then. Yikes Yikes! That would really stink! They can do it!!!!!!
Speaking of field trips, I opened the pay period today. Kids were able to buy in today if they wanted to. Almost all did. They paid for all three ($3000). Some did not have enough to pay for all three, so they bought into what they could. They still have time to earn money. Kids have had ample opportunities to earn money, so as always I will not just throw cash their way. We will also have some other buy in opportunities before the year ends as well. One, will be mandatory for Mother's Day. Oooooohhhhh....big secret!
Lastly, I would just like to thank all of you that sent texts, emails, and notes in the planner thanking me for teaching your kids this year. It has been such a fun group of kids, and watching them grow has been an honor. I know that at times I can seem tough or too strict, but I promise you that when your kids leave my four walls, they will understand exactly what I wanted them to understand...and that is to BELIEVE in themselves and in others. When I hold the bar high for your child, they get there. I see so much potential in your child and I get so excited to watch them reach it. Thank you for noticing that as well. It warms my heart to get your positive notes and thoughts. :0)
Have a great night!
