This morning we spent time just getting caught up. I paid everyone for their email blog code words. Kids also earned $600 this morning for compliments they got from the subs, Mrs. Hankins, and Mr. Senitte! I can not tell you how proud of these kids I am. It is so nice to come back from a happy vacation to an amazing sub note. The first sub said he even wanted to come back to observe how I created the magic he saw in here. Wow!!!! Great job.
We also talked about the upcoming three field trips coming up and the $3000 price tag along with them. ($1000 each). Many were excited that they already had the money to buy in. All trips are in May. They still have plenty of time to earn and keep their cash. We will have other buy in things as well, so they will need more than that when it comes down to it. Future 5th graders will have no problem with this. Those that are still in 4th grade mode might find themselves stuck at school while their peers are having fun outside. That would be super sad. We have some fun things planned!!!
Tomorrow we have our first NWEA Map testing. Today, I gave each kid the score that they scored when they took this same test in the fall. Then I had them add 8 points to it. That is the number needed to show the required/expected growth in the 4th grade in reading. We also reviewed that these tests are on their level and not all are a 4th grade test. It might be below or it might be above. It is wherever they left off in the fall. The important thing is that they make the 8 points growth to show that they grew on their level. Many kids often make more than 8 points growth. :0) The one thing I don't want to see is them making a backward growth. That concerns me deeply, no matter what level they are testing on. We have worked very hard in reading class this year. I am expecting each child to take their time and give the test their best. They will all do GREAT!!!! I totally BELIEVE in each and every one of them! Kids may bring their protein snack and gum if they wish. Hopefully, they get in bed early too. Thanks.
New book orders came home today. Let's make them due by next Friday, the 20th. Please order online at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. For each book ordered, your child will earn $100. There is no limit. Summer is coming...does your child have books to read over the summer???
Tomorrow is the BUG club assembly at 2:20 in the gym. Kids that maintained their grades or brought them up from quarter 2 earn the BIG club award, and those with straight A's will earn the Awesome Kid award. They will receive an award and treat. I was sad to see that we did not have very many this quarter. I am hoping for more next quarter. Again...future 5th graders needed. :0) Below are those that are receiving an award this quarter. Great Job!!!! I am so, so proud of all of you!

PS. Ask your child about the book we read at CC meeting this morning about standing up to bullies. If they can retell you the story, write the name of the bully in the planner for $20 bonus. If they can tell you the name of the dinosaur that stood up to the bully write it too for a $50 bonus instead of the $20.
