Hi there. As you know, we are reading the book, There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom in my reading class. It is a very funny book, and the kids and I are really enjoying it. The main character, Bradley Chalkers, is a bully gone nice kid. He and his friend Jeff find themselves in a hurry and lost at school and end up in the girl's bathroom on two separate occasions. So, this past Friday, we took the annual field trip into the opposite gender's bathrooms. I would tell you all about it, but I think they say it best in the clips and pictures above. Too funny! Read 180 students also went with us as Mrs. Betts was out sick Friday. Lucky them!!! This book has a great message to kids about how it is never too late to change, even when people think that you can't. We have been working hard on the reading skills of sequencing, fact or opinion, and cause and effect. We will finish up the book this week with the skill of questioning.

This week we will also be finishing up the water cycle unit. Students will be writing a fun story about a raindrop they create. They will take their raindrop through all four stages of the cycle and have adventures along the way. The raindrops need to be created at home. Watch for more details to come home on Monday. The entire art/writing project will be due next Friday. Fun!

We took our NE states and capitals test last Friday. I gotta say, I was a little disappointed. Some kids really struggled and left many answers blank. Others did a great job! I could sure tell who studied and who did not. Tests will come home Monday. We will be starting the SE region on Monday. The test on this region's states and capitals will be in two weeks. I sure hope they study a little more and a little earlier. Students that were absent on Friday, will take the NE test on Monday.

Grade Reports came home Friday. These are the current grades in the classes that I teach them. Instead of returning them to school on Monday, please just sign their planner on the signature line they drew in for you by the words grade report. Students that have this will earn $100. Grades are looking good. Watch for those missing assignments (MA) though. If your child has one they need to get it taken care of as soon as possible. One missing assignment can drop a grade an entire grade level. Yikes! If kids need a new sheet, they know how to get one. It is up to them.

Happy Birthday to Aaron today!!! Thanks for the yummy cookies.

LeeRoy was our star of the week. He shared his favorite stuffed animals from the fair, some pictures from the GRIZ games (Go GRIZ!!!), and some very cool replicas of things from his Korean culture. Great Job LeeRoy! Up next is Miss. Halle! Can't wait to see what she brings!

We are still working on Xtramath.com. The basic facts are coming, but need a lot more practice. Please allow your child to get on and do a 3 minute session at least once or twice this weekend. Students that have a report for the weekend (it is sent to me via the program) will be rewarded on Monday. Hopefully kids exit out of addition quickly and move onto subtraction soon. Then, onto multiplication for all in November. Wow! We will also be taking our Ch. 1-2 Test in math this week. It will cover everything we have done thus far. They are doing great! It has been awesome to see how quickly these kids learn on a whole this year. This is the first class that had all day kindergarten. I can sooooooooo see a difference from my past students. Awesome!!

Finally, I would like kids to think about one of our classroom expectations before they come to class on Monday. We are having a hard time with talking during transition times. For example, I will ask them to put this away and get out this. For some reason, they take that to mean that they need to start talking to their friends. If they were able to do what I need them to do and talk at the same time that would be ok. But, it is not happening and it is taking way to long to move forward in the lessons. We are wasting up to ten minutes a day. That may not seem like much to them, but I can actually teach a math, social studies, spelling or DOL lesson in ten minutes. So, when it is wasted I have to cut out learning. May I ask you to please visit with your child about this, and maybe even do some practice runs at home? Have them move from this to that without talking. It really would help. If you do this, let me know know by writing PRACTICE in their planner for a $20 bonus on Monday. Thanks for your support!

I hope you have a great Sunday. I will see you all on Monday!
