Who's Your Kid's Raindrop???

Oh my it was a Monday for sure. Packed and full of learning!

All kiddos are coming home tonight with their nightly writing journals. They are to write paragraph one of their raindrop story. They are to become a raindrop and travel through the water cycle. But....tonight they are only to do step one: collection. I have stapled in the example paragraph that I wrote this weekend about Drippy the raindrop. They need to introduce me to their raindrop and where it is collecting. They need to give me some details about what their raindrop is doing in that collection place. They need to use my model as a guide for my expectations, but their paragraph should not sound like mine. They need to be creative and I expect their personal voice to come out. They are not to talk about any other part of the water cycle today. That will all come later in the week. Each day we will add a little bit more. Tomorrow I will also send home their raindrop template. They will need to add fun decorations to their raindrop at home. They can add hair, shoes, glasses, whatever! They need to be super creative. I love home projects because you get to help, and they come back not looking like anyone else's!!! Again, I will send that home tomorrow. I will show them Drippy tomorrow as an example. Have fun with this!

PLEASE read their paragraphs tonight. Help them spell words correctly and make simple changes. Help them add details and make sure they have periods and capital letters. There is no way I can possibly do this for every child every day this week. I need your help. At the end, they will write a final draft including all their corrections. Thank you!

Today, we talked about Columbus Day. We talked about it from the European perspective and the Native American perspective as well. Ask your child to retell the story about the little native boy and his dream. If they can, write the word Encounter in their planner for $20 at tomorrow's check in.

Later this week a slip will be coming home about all the activities we will be doing for Red Ribbon Week. Some will need your permission, others will not. We will have a special activity and many guest speakers all week long. All of these will be done with Mrs. Hankin's class. This will be part of their Social Studies grade. We can't wait! Tons of real world learning and life long skills will be taught during this week. Be on the lookout for the slip.

Our Bitterroot Non-fundraiser Fundraiser is due this Friday. Remember, if everyone in our class gets at least one donation our class gets an ice cream party from the PTA. Sweet! If you are done collecting donations, please send in the envelopes anytime this week. Make sure your child's name is on it somewhere, along with mine. Thanks for this! Bitterroot Parents Rock!

We have PE tomorrow. Please help your child remember their shoes. Mr. Ness, our old PE teacher stopped in today for a visit. It was great to see him! The kids really miss him.

In art, kids are leaning all sorts of cool things. Today they learned about a word that we learned in math as well. However, in art it means an entirely different thing. Ask your child what word they worked on today by shading with their pencils all different ways. If they know it, write the word down in their planner for another $20 bonus.

We only have two kids left to buy into the field trips. Everyone has bought into the NILE trip. Almost everyone has bought into the Jail trip. We still need chaperones for the jail trip. Anyone interested????? Just write me a note in the planner. We split up into groups when we get there so it is important to have plenty of adults to supervise. It is on the 28th of October.

Don't forget about our Bitterroot Pumpkin Patch Celebration on Friday the 28th at night. Kids can wear their costumes and come play many fun games. Candy....oh yes!!! There will be candy. PTA is also looking for parents that can work a half hour or hour shift at a game. This is super fun for all kids. Mark it on your calendar's now. Plus, you can come wish me happy birthday. (which is really on Halloween!!!) Yep, I am a spooky baby. Might explain a lot some say. :0)

Students that did a session or more this weekend on xtramath.com earned $50 today. Keep it up. They did a session today in class, but they need to do it again tonight at home. Students that do, will earn a jolly rancher tomorrow. The faster they master these basic facts the better.

Have a wonderful night. Get out and enjoy this awesome Fall weather!
