Today in science, we watched a funny Bill Nye the Science Guy with Mrs. Hankin's class. Ask your child how many muscles it takes to smile. Then ask how many to frown. Write what they say in the planner for $20 bonus tomorrow. Just a note here, today I asked the kids what your compliment was to them last night. Some of them had no clue and said that you never gave them a compliment. I then wondered why they had the code word down. Part of the code word procedure is to open up a conversation between you and your child about their day. Please don't just write down the word. They get embarrassed when they have no idea what I am talking about. I did love the way the kids that did know were so cute in their responses. Thanks for loving those kiddos!!!!
Today in SS we started our tour of the Midwest. We all jumped in a crop duster plane and flew to Missouri, Iowa, and Kansas. In Kansas, we got out and sung Home on the Range. Kids then began to make up their own verse that we will sing for the class tomorrow. Should be interesting. :0)
Otter projects are due tomorrow. I can't wait to see them. Kids may bring them in when they get to school and set them in the hall on the tables. We will share them tomorrow and Friday. I would like them to be on display the following week as well and then home next Friday. Yay!!
In reading we started our book clubs. They went WAY better than I ever expected. We had post it notes galore!!! There were inferential questions, text to self connections, text to text connections, and text to world connections. We also had similes, idioms, and visualizations shared. Oh my!!! What a great first day. I will visit with Helen Keller group tomorrow. What biography is your child reading? Ask them and write it in the planner for another $5 tomorrow.
Korbyn is our star of the week this week! We are excited to see what he brings!
Have a great night!
