Look at me when I am complimenting you! :0)

Hello. What a difference a good night sleep makes in the routine of the 4th grade. Today seemed to fly by!!!

We were able to get every subject in today. Ask your child about muscle and bone tissue. Have them show you how cells link together to make tissue. If they do, write cell in their planner for $10 bonus. We also started learning about our Midwest states. We will have the states and capital's test before Christmas break. We will also have a review test covering all the states and capitals thus far, so keep those old flashcards going. Hopefully kids are not just learning these for the moment, but for life. I know I use them all the time when watching the news or talking to others socially. Don't you??

In math, we continued on with our long multiplication practice. Kids did two with me, four with a friend, and now they need to do three at home. They may check them with a calculator, but they know that if they are wrong they need to go back and find out why. We talked about how just changing the answer to match the calculator will not help them learn.

In CC meeting this week we have been focussing on giving and receiving compliments. Each child has been assigned a secret compliment buddy for the week. They need to face to face compliment, post it note on their desk, or drop a compliment in our bucket to be passed out the next day to their buddy. This morning, we gave each other compliments and talked about how the more specific the compliment is the better it makes the receiver feel. We also watched a youtube video of a man giving complete strangers general and specific compliments outside a grocery store. Lastly, we talked about receiving a compliment. I shared with them that I am horrible at this skill. I will often put my head down due to the fact that I do not like to be the center of attention. I will often also negate the compliment by saying something like, "oh this old thing?" Instead, I need to just look the person in the eye and say thank you. Practice this at home. Give your child a compliment. Watch their eyes. Do they look down or away? Do they say thank you and give you great eye contact? If you do this, write Compliment in the planner for another $10 bonus.

Two more days for those otter projects. I am loving the enthusiasm and wonderful ideas I am hearing. I knew we had some creative kids in here!!!!! Can't wait to see them on Thursday!

Have a wonderful evening. Hopefully, we wake up to little or no snow again!
