Well hello there! Happy 2012!!!! I don't know about you, but I had a wonderful holiday break! Thank you all so much for the gifts. I loved every single one of them!!!! I also had one that was a BELIEVE necklace from a native tribe in Arizona. It did not have a name on it, and it came from someone that was absent on Friday. Whoever it was...I LOVED it!!!! I absolutely love homemade gifts that come from the heart. Thank you again everyone!!!
Well, we are back in full swing again on Monday. Yep, we have school on Monday! (Even though the rest of the world is off!). Time to get back into that bedtime routine again.
Quarter 2 is almost at its end. Report cards will be done soon. That means quarter 3 is right on the horizon. Starting Monday, all students will have their new wallet with the $300 start up money. Before we went on break I talked to the kids about some new expectations we will have in our class from now on. One of those will be, that it will now cost students money for me to repeat directions or instructions. I will be happy to repeat myself for $100 each time asked. I think this will help kids tune into my voice a little better. The other change will be a $100 fine for each strike. Before it was a $50 fine. We are having less and less strikes for behaviors and missing assignments which tells me that boosting it up before helped. I am so proud of all my 4th graders and how they have really grown up in the last two quarters. I can take some of that credit, but I could not have done it without all the support from you parents. Thank you for believing in me, reading the blog to stay informed, and for blessing me with your kids for 180 days!
Academically, we will be studying the following...
Math: Time, Geometry, and LONG DIVISION!!!
Reading: Finishing Biographies, Begin Computer Power Point Book Report and finish Read Aloud.
Spelling: Homework will now be done at school. Only need to study at home now!!!
Science: Metric Olympics with Mrs. Hankin's Class
Social Studies: Review on All Regions Thus Far
Language: Parts of Speech Continued
Finally, I leave with this. I took my children to see We Bought a Zoo at the movie theater over the break. GREAT family movie with tons of AWESOME character!!! At any rate...one of the previews was a movie about three blue whales that became trapped in the Arctic Ocean. It is based on a true story and guess what????? We read about this exact story in one of our HRs! Ask your child if they remember it. SOOOOOOOOO cool! We will be taking a closer look at this story and the migration of the blue whales. Then on Earth Day, we will try our best to get tickets to go to the movie coming out that day. Who knew a little piece of paper would get us a great unit of study?!!! Too cool. If your child can remember what country ended up saving the day in the movie/story, write it down in the planner for a $50 bonus. A clue...it is NOT the US!
Have a super Sunday and I will see you all next year!
