Hi there. I hope you had a great weekend!
Last Friday, we learned a whole lot more about our classmate Jaeden. She had so much to share. I knew she had an older sister, but two older sisters...who knew? Great Job Jaeden!
This week will be spent on new subjects. We will venture into the Trail of Tears in Social Studies to learn about the Cherokee Native Americans that were pushed back into Oklahoma against their will. It is a sad story, hence the title. Since we just studied Oklahoma, I thought it would be a great tie in. Be watching for a vocabulary sheet tomorrow night. We will discuss the words before we read the story. The kids will be tested on them on Tuesday, again before we read the story. (Pre-test). Then again after (Post Test). Those that pass the pre-test will not have to take the post vocabulary test. We will start our new novels and book clubs as well. The kids will be reading fiction books. The new focus will be summarizing and main idea. We will, of course, continue to practice all the other skills as well. We will also start a new read aloud book. It is a really funny book about a pair of owls. Mrs. Hankin's class is also reading it, so we will do many activities together. At the end, we will have an owl day and do many fun activities. I am sure Jeff the Nature Guy will also be involved throughout the book. In math, we will move onto adding and subtracting fractions with and without common denominators. Mrs. Hankins and I are sitting down this week to plan our new science unit. Can't wait to see what we come up with next! Ask your child what they would like to learn about in science and write it in the planner for $20 on Monday.
The perfect attendance club had a great time at McDonalds and so did I. It is fun to just hang with kids at lunch and listen to their funny conversations. It always reminds me that they really are just kids. We will go again at the end of the year for those that have perfect attendance in third or fourth quarter and absolutely NO tardies. I love that this class has very few of either. Thanks for getting them to school daily and on time. It really does make a difference.
Well, enjoy your Sunday evening. Mine will be spent with our traditional watching of Once Upon A Time. It is one of our families favorite shows to watch together.
