Hi there. Brrrrr! After a two hour drive this morning to work I sure was glad to get here safe. Wow! I will for sure be staying in town tonight. Be safe out there!
Speaking of being at school, yesterday I shared with the kids who had perfect attendance in Quarter One, Quarter Two, or both AND no tardies. Those that did this will be rewarded with a trip to the McDonalds in Walmart for lunch by me. Those students are as follows: Ramsey (Both Quarters!!!), Korbyn (Q1), Avery (Both Quarters!!!), Halle (Q1), LeeRoy (Q1), Jaeden (Q1), Alyssa (Q1) and Christopher (Q1). The trip will be next week sometime, and a permission slip will come home with all the details. It is so important to be here everyday and on time. Great job! Mr. Senitte also has a free pizza from Straw Hat Pizza coupon for kids that have 4 or less absents in Q1 and 2 combined. Those will come home tomorrow in the report cards. Brady, Sadie, and Makiah I still need your yellow report card cover returned from Quarter 1. Thanks.
Today we continued with our Metric Olympics unit. As you can see, Brett is showing you how the standing long jump was done and measured to the nearest centimeter, and the swimming sponge was measured with a graduated cylinder to the nearest half milliliter. Yesterday, we did the javalin (straw), discus (paper plate), and shot put (cotton ball) throw and measured again in centimeters. Mrs. Hankins then taught them how to find the area of their foot using centimeter square graph paper. It has been a neat way for the kids to practice measuring. This is just an introduction to the unit we will do in more depth for math.
Biography reports are coming along. Today we almost finished our time lines. We will do two more components to the report tomorrow. We are almost done with our read aloud as well.
We have PE tomorrow. Please remember those shoes. We didn't get recess today as it was below zero temperatures. But, you never know, so please pack and dress warmly.
Tonight for nightly writing all kids had to decide if they wanted or didn't want snow. Then they have to write three reasons why. Finally, they needed to expand each one of those details with a supporting sentence. Just the ideas are due tomorrow. We will do more with it again tomorrow night. Thanks!
Spelling tests came back today from last week. Many grades were lower than normal. I am not sure if it is because I am not doing homework at home anymore so they are not studying or what. Input??? This week is a review week, so they need to be bringing their books home. However, as I am writing I see almost all of them on the shelf. Urg. May I encourage you to write a note in their planner on tomorrow's page to remind them to bring it home. If you do, I will reward them $50 tomorrow. Generally, I have almost all 100% on spelling tests, but not this time. They can do it!!! :0)
The count is in for the pennies. Team Erickson is in 2nd place. Mrs. McCroan's Kindergarten class is in first. Tomorrow we have to turn in our coins again. I hope we pull ahead. Please allow kids to check couch cushions, under car seats, and other fun places (bottom of your purses or pant pockets) for loose coins to donate. The are pretty excited to see it all add up!
Well, stay warm and have a great evening!
PS Again, my videos and pictures will not load! Darn it!
