In science, we continued our studies on the Earth and its layers. Today, we got together with Mrs. Hankin's class again. We talked about how 250 million years ago the Earth looked very different then it does today. It was all connected as one giant land mass. So, using this puzzle piece knowledge and the fact that scientists discovered this by finding the same types of animal fossils in both land masses. These animals couldn't fly or swim long distances, so therefore had to have walked across land to the other land mass. The kids were given time to cut apart the masses and put the Pangea puzzle together once again. Next, we will use this knowledge to talk more about out floating plates and what happens when plates shift, collide, or scrape one another. I think it will take some graham crackers and frosting to get that point across. :0) Talk to your child about Pangea. If they can tell you what it is and what we did in science today with it, write PANGEA in the planner for $10 reward.
The first math review test came home tonight. I gotta say these kids are so so smart. I have been doing this for a lot of years and these kids are just intelligent by nature. I am not sure if it is because they are the first group of all day kindergarteners or what, but they just get something and don't forget it. I was very proud of their grades. There were many problems that I hadn't taught on the test as well, so I granted them bonus questions. The ones they were expected to know though, they knew! Ask your child for theirs tonight and give them a great big hug!
In CC meeting this morning, we talked about our feelings and how they are a BIG deal and they come and they go. Rusty has us say this every day at the end of his show, but today we talked about what that really meant. We compared ourselves to robots. We discovered instead of computer chips we have brains and instead of batteries we have hearts. We then talked about making a pizza. It would be pretty boring to just have plain crust for a pizza. We need sausage, sauce, cheese, mushrooms and all those yummy toppings we love. Well, just like that we also need many different feelings. It would not be very exciting to walk around mad or sad all the time. I also explained that people can't just be happy all the time either. I shared with them that I need to be sad sometimes to help me remember my sister and how much she meant to me. It is normal to have many feelings in a day. Some last a minute, some longer. Either way, all feelings are important!
I leave you with this, Tomorrow is a new day! It is a fresh start! Gotta Love Those!!!!!
Have a great night!
PS. The Earth layer examples brought in from home have been awesome!!!! Thanks again Ramsey for the fresh avocado on my salad!!! Yummy mantle I tell ya!
