It's the 4th Day in the 4th Grade!

Hi! Happy Monday, and that is exactly what it was. Today just flew by. The lovely thunder and rainstorm helped at the end of the day too. Cooled it down a little at least. Rumor has it that we will be int he 70's by Wednesday. Yay!

Today we took our fourth day in the fourth grade pictures. Man you have some adorable children. Speaking of adorable, your stories about their names were too dang cute. I was cracking up. I even had to share them with Mr. Senitte. Love them. Quite the creative group you are. If you are still working on the name homework, please turn it in ASAP as it was due today. Thanks.

Part of our morning routine is our Character Circle Meeting, or what I like to call CC Meeting. In that we learn how to properly give a handshake, greet a friend, give good eye contact, and share how we are feeling. The kids have to say, I am feeling _____ today because ______. As the year goes on, they really feel safe sharing some pretty deep stuff. Some kids are bored already in school. Today we talked about how school is a privledge and that it is all in their attitude. If they think it is boring it is. If they get involved then it becomes fun and meaningful. We also talked about how Ms. Erickson accepts all feelings, but will not allow a negative feeling to trickle down on others. For example, if you are bored and start to get into trouble, I will not allow you to influence others to go down that path with you. Please talk to your kids tonight. Ask them what their feeling they shared in class today and why. If they can tell you, write it down in their planner for a $20 bonus money at tomorrow's check in.

Tonight's homework is their nightly writing journal. We went over all the expectations. They must write in neat 4th grade handwriting (cursive or print), use the line space appropriately, write on the entire line till the red line, stay on topic, and write at least a half of a page. This is to the second hole in the spiral. The topic tonight is to write a story about how the world would be messed up if all the numbers disappeared. We brainstormed a huge list of ideas. They needed to pick one of those and write a story about how it went horribly wrong. For example, I might have went to make cookies but I couldn't measure the ingredients or figure out what temperature to bake them at. So, I ended up with a burned soup instead of fresh cookies. Something like that, but theirs will have a lot more detail. Have fun with this. Please read over theirs tonight, or better yet, have them read it to you. Talk about spelling and grammar as you go, but it is the idea I am looking for at this point. Thanks for helping out on this one.

Tomorrow we have health enhancement. The first 30 minutes is health class, and the second is PE. Their new gym teacher's name is Mrs. Buss. Mr. Ness was reassigned to other schools. :0( Mrs. Buss rocks however!!

Lastly, please go over at least five of the 20 spelling words tonight. We talked about dividing the word into syllables to help break it down to spell. All the words have a long or short a sound. They may be found off to the right.

I leave you with this fun picture of four friends at recess and two frogs that hopped their way into our view as we were playing outside. Enjoy!
