In art, kids are learning about Lewis and Clark and making a pretty cool project to go with it. Great Montana History Tie in.
Today in science, we watched a snip-it of otters playing in the water and in the snow. We also read a pretty cool book about them and saw some fun pictures that helped us learn even more. Tomorrow, we will talk about hibernation and how some animals adapt to their surroundings. That will bring us to the point of our field trip. After the field trip, students will have an at home project that they can begin to work on. It will be due the first part of December. Yikes, did I just say December???? Oh my. Kids that are hanging at home for the Thanksgiving break could use their time to get this project done. More specifics are to come.
Today your spaghetti dinner invitations came home for this Friday. Remember, I asked you to save the date??? Well, it is coming soon. Kids are excited to become waiter and waitresses to serve you dinner. Read the sheet for all the details. Kids that return the sheet tomorrow can earn $100.
Mr. Senitte is doing a school wide buy in fun-day program to raise money for some families in need in our community and school. Tomorrow is pajama and bring a stuffed animal day. If kids want to participate they need to bring in $1.00 to donate. All the money tomorrow will be donated to the Flakesgiving program with the Breakfast Flakes on 102.9. I will write an email on Tuesday after school, so be listening at 7:20 am on Wednesday morning to hear how famous Bitterroot is. Man, we do great things here! Wednesday is wear a hat day, Thursday is chew gum at school, and Friday is eat leftover Halloween candy in class day. All of these are $1 to buy into each day. Some kids asked if they could donate more and I said, "Yeppers!" In CC meeting today we talked about how kids should dig into their own piggy banks for these days. If they don't have a piggy bank, we talked about doing an extra chore at home to earn the money. Kids need to feel the joy of donating to others. We talked about how Thanksgiving without a turkey and Christmas without presents under the tree would be hard for a kid. We, at Bitterroot want to do our part to make both holidays possible. If you are in need, please call the office for a form or for the Flakesgiving boxes, just show up at the metra and ask for a meal box. You could also volunteer to build the boxes on this Sat morning at 10. Google it for more information. I have done it for three years. It is super fun and rewarding. All three years I have carried out boxes for Bitterroot families. That is why I will be donating too tomorrow as I proudly wear my GRIZ pjs!
I have four more journals to respond back to. So, we should be back to nightly writing tomorrow. For tonight, kids may have come home with a multiplication sheet, a Veteran's Day sheet, and/or spelling homework. I am still looking for missing work from many students as well. I had only one spelling paper turned in that is missing. Other than that, kids did not turn in work. I will not hound them or make new copies. They know the procedures for obtaining new sheets if needed. It is their choice.
I am super proud of these 4th graders. The talking and applying what you know is starting to get better. They are really starting to see how what they do in class is important to their life in the future. Speaking of futures, today in CC meeting we also talked about how each and every one of us matter. Ask your child why they matter to the world. It would be super cool if you told them why they matter. For personal reasons, this topic brings tears to my eyes. Every single person should know that they matter to you, especially your children. They have to know that they are loved and make a difference in your life. You may think they know, but when was the last time we have really told our children that? Or even ourselves. We now end our CC meeting by me saying, You matter to me! They then say back to me, I am an amazing person! Like a snowflake, there is no one else just like me. I absolutely matter in this world! I promise to work hard every single second to better my life. I BELIEVE in me! I figure they will say this at least 100 times to me before they leave my classroom. My hope is that they continue to say it and BELIEVE in it forever. If you talk with your child and tell them why they matter to this world, write the word MATTER in the planner for $50 tomorrow.
Have a super night, and know that each and every person reading this MATTERS to me!!
