Hi there. Well, we didn't quite make the turkey day, but we were close. Overall, it was a good day though. Above is a video of your kiddos greeting one another this morning. We do it almost every morning in all different ways, but this was the round-a-bout version. The other video is of them doing a fun little partner hand-eye coordination drill. Cute! (Wont load now, I will try again tonight :0()
Venture Theater tryouts are underway as I type and the kids were really excited. It is an awesome opportunity for kids. Thanks again to PTA for doing this!
In Social Studies today we joined up with Mrs. Hankin's class to do a regional review activity. We gave them a list of twenty where would I find this...clue and they had to decide what region to put it in. Mrs. Hankin's and I did this to see if they were retaining the information taught in each region, and they pleasantly surprised us. They really are learning! Awesome!!!
I ran the reports for the Read About Computer program we do 4 days a week. Again, WOW! The kids are doing awesome. Every year, I have had to get really stern about doing their best and giving it their all, but this group is doing it all on their own. What great character they have.
Tomorrow we will SRI test. This test is given three times a year. It gives us their current reading level. We use this test to place children in certain classes to make sure they are being taught at their level. In the morning, I will remind kids what they got last time and we will set a goal for this time. In one year, they are expected to grow 75-100 points. Kids in READ 180 are expected to double that growth. So, please talk to your child tonight and remind them than when testing, they need to relax and all that we expect is that they honestly give it their best effort by reading all the questions carefully, reading the passage to answer the question, and if needed they look back to find the answer. If you have this conversation with your child, please write the word SRI in their planner for a $50 reward.
We have PE tomorrow, so please remember those gym shoes for safety reasons.
In music today, Mr. Goodheart gave the kids their recorder booklets. They received their first assignment. It is due next Monday. If they have questions they need to ask me or Mr. Goodheart BEFORE Monday. This booklet and the assignments in it will be a HUGE part of their upcoming quarter grade in music. Also, students will be playing the recorder and will have a concert for you. We have some recorders at school that kids may use, but it is preferred that they have their own so they may practice at home. If your child has one, please have them clean it up and put their name on it. They will need to bring it to class on Monday and Wednesday. Again, we have some at school they may borrow if needed.
Book orders went home today. They are due back not this Friday but the next. Please try to order online. I will send home the direction sheet tomorrow. If not, checks written to Scholastic work as well. Students may earn $100 per book they order, and their is no limit.
Have an awesome night!
