Hi. What a great day from beginning to end.
We started the day with more Earth Day fun. We did an Earth Day checklist of our classroom and discovered that we are needing some improvements in some areas. We are wasting some paper and we need green plants. Since I am the world's worst plant keeper a live-er (is that a word?) I have fake plants. So, naturally that was the one that the kids wanted to fix. So, I told them that if they have a green plant they want to donate and take care of at school they may bring it in. I also told them it is not my job to keep them alive, and that they have to go back home at the end of the year for the summer. I will give $200 rewards for plants however to encourage their wishes. :0)
For homework tonight, the kids are coming home with the same checklist for their home. They need to do it WITH YOU!!! I am sure a great discussion will be had by all that do. Kids need to then fill out the second sheet for their plan of action to fix one of their sometimes or never check marks. You need to sign the sheet saying you did this together. Those that do, will earn $100. IF your family actually does the plan of action then please write me a note in the planner by next Monday for a $500 reward, but they ACTUALLY have to have the plan IN action by Earth Day (Sunday). :0) All checklists are due by ALL students by Friday. It will be a recorded grade.
Funky Junk sounds like it is going well at home. Remember they are due this Friday. Please do not bring in projects before that. Funky Junk statues are also a recorded science grade. The pictures above are examples, but should not be used as their own. They need to come up with their own ideas.
Kids are running the 800 tomorrow in PE. They are trying to attempt to beat their last time. To help, kids may bring in their portable music players to listen to as they run. They may also buy in for $200 to listen to them in class tomorrow as well, but we have testing part of the morning.
Testing is tomorrow from 10:20 until noon. KIds may chew gum and bring in a protein packed snack. This is the language test. I can't wait to see the growth!!!! Those that reach the school's goal will earn a treat. :0) They are ready!!!! BELIEVE! If your child is in bed tonight by 8:30 write SLEEP in the planner for $50 tomorrow.
Today, we concluded our three types of rock study in a fun way. I took more pictures, so I wanted to hold off on yesterday's slideshow until today. So, watch tomorrow's blog for the complete smilebox. Fun times!
The Sitton Spelling Tests are coming along. I can sure tell who is studying at home each and every night. Remember, kids should only need to take each test twice. We have taken nine tests now, and I still have kids on test one, two, and three. That is crazy! That means they have tried the same test over and over again and are still not passing. Many times, I look back at the test I have given back to them and the same words are wrong. Studied???? I don't think so. Please encourage your child to bring home their tests and study the words. Remember, many words repeat again on other tests so they can't just learn it for the moment. These are every day words in the English language. They have until May 18th to pass all TEN tests. Tests that are not passed will be scored as an F. This is the only spelling recorded in the 4th quarter. So, if they don't pass all ten, there is a good chance they won't pass spelling this quarter. Yikes!
Lastly, please note that the recorder concert has been changed to 1:30 instead of 1:45 next Wednesday. There was a miscommunication on the invitation that went home. I will also be recording and broadcasting the entire concert live on the internet for those of you stuck in the office or for relatives that are not in Montana. I will send home information this Friday as to how to find it. :0)
Well, have a wonderful night! Go Green!
